Spring Heritage Stroll #11: Mythical meetings in Varma 1 # 2, Sunday June 17.

You will follow the steps of Nathalie Cazals, an archaeologist, who has long been fascinated by the oppidum of Varma, a former Gaulish village, Celtic is now said. From the heights of Varma opens another point of view because of its exceptional geographical location. On the city first, because it draws here an urban cartography where flows and networks cross a mosaic of village hamlets and large ensembles. On the founding myth of Marseille then, because its history of love and reconciliation of peoples has many reasons to be and is interpreted otherwise from the Celtic world in front of the centrality of Massalia the Greek. An ancient narrative that resonates until today to discuss with the inhabitants the relationship between Centralities and Peripheries, to discuss also the future of the archaeological site that will be rehabilitated this year. Proposal in the context of National days Archaeology 2018 programming spring 2018. ATTENTION NB: For reasons of number of PLACES on isced two programming of this same stroll are offered in the same morning.: From 9:30 and from 11:00 to 12:30 hourly Listings # 1 here. Hourly Listings # 2 here.

Spring Heritage Stroll #10: The route of the Celts: from the Gallie to the oppidum of the Bell, Saturday 16 June.

The oppidum of the bell is located on a road connecting Marseille with the lake of Leo. Destroyed by the Roman troops in 49 BCE, excavated and then classified historical Monument in 2004, it tells the Celtic-Ligurian past but also the circulations in a metropolitan territory practiced by men for thousands of years. Walking in the steps of the Celts, we will meet along the way the stories of the many inhabitants of the massif of the Nerthe:

  • Those who still live in the very discreet hamlet of the Gallie and its chapel
  • Those whose traces we find in the ancient domains Cossimont, Turkish or in the multiple military fortifications
  • Those who came with the industrialization of the massif, but also the many "non-humans" who participate in the richness of these hills (plant species, birds, amphibians…)

Picnic from the bag at the end of the trip. In the framework: National days Archaeology 2018 programming Spring 2018 registrations here.

Course danced in the PORT of SAUMATY-Fridays June 1st and 22nd

For 2 years already the neighbors walkers of North Hotel offer you to discover the Port of Saumaty from its various uses related to the sea and fishing. But this conversation has also since the first meetings included strange artistic experiences where the possibility to exchange on another register, more uncertain but also sometimes more open. This year, the net is woven from the dance side, with the Ex Nihilo company.

"By mutual agreement" is a proposal for a dance course at the Port of Saumaty.

The Ex Nihilo Company invites you to discover the port, its activities, its rhythm, to walk through the fishing boxes, the Ice tower, the hall at Tide, and the workshops of wholesalers… An invitation to share their experience, their encounter with this place so singular, responsible for its history and that of the fishermen.

The fishing port of Marseille which has since 1976 the wholesale market and the auction is in full restructuring. This emblematic place motivated the desire of the Ex Nihilo company to take the time of a voyage, an experimentation in situ during two residences that gave rise to this proposal.

Spring Heritage Stroll #8: Saumaty, Port side, Saturday, June 2.

Not really a neighborhood, Saumaty is both the name of a cove, a tower, a port, a tile factory, an activity area… Remodelled, the earth became embankments nibbled the sea until it became in 1976 the last extension of the great port of Marseille to include the fishing port and the auction, then located on the old port. of unpredictable access, the fishing port of Saumaty remains a somewhat mysterious place, a little hidden, unknown in its function and its trades. It is also a huge reservoir of stories, know-how and knowledge about the Mediterranean. Just pass the barrier and meet… A stroll punctuated by the artistic interventions of the collective of musicians Bo Monsters, the singer Julie Biereye and the visual artist Emilie Petit. Registration here.

Spring Heritage Stroll #7: In hospitable lands, Tuesday, May 15.

The North hospital celebrated in 2015 its 50 years. It was an opportunity to discover its history, its landscapes, its site, its culture. 3 years later the links between the hospital and the residents of the cooperative were woven: reception of patients and caregivers in the house, small market of local resources, map of resources… This stroll was born out of a shared will between residents and hospital agents to get to know each other and share the stories of the place. It is an unusual discovery of a public establishment but also of a human adventure, which tells a lot about the urbanization of the 50 years of the terroir of Marseille. The tour will integrate the discovery of the initiative of the small market (possibility to find what to picnic). Registration here.

Spring Heritage Stroll #6: Open house for Bees, Sunday, May 6.

In the foothills of the Massif de L'Etoile, Agnes and Louis, beekeepers, propose the visit of a beehive on the edge of town: Opening of hives (loan of a protective garment of beekeeper per group of 7 persons), visit of the laboratory, extraction of honey (in season of harvest), tasting. The visit reveals the botanical, ecological and environmental qualities of these neighborhoods and plunges us into the fascinating world of the bee. Event followed by a picnic taken from the bag.   Registration here.
